Mulbekh Monastery

Mulbekh Monastery, also known as the Mulbekh Gompa, dates back to the 8th century and is home to significant Buddhist relics and artifacts. It is perched on a crag 656 feet above the road, offering a dramatic and picturesque setting.

The monastery features ancient rock carvings, including a 9-meter tall statue of Maitreya Buddha, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage. It is a significant site for both the Drukpa and Gelugpa sects of Tibetan Buddhism.

Location

Mulbekh Monastery is located on the Leh-Srinagar highway, around 45 kilometers from Kargil. It is easily accessible by road and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
